Jacksonville Energy Auditor Joins Network of Home Performance Teams

Home Energy Auditor and Contractors Teams Maximize Energy Efficiency, Comfort and Safety in Northeast Florida and portions of Southeast Georgia.
When John Moore called HomePro Inspections to conduct a home energy audit, he wasn’t familiar with the “home performance team” approach that’s becoming popular with energy auditors and contractors.  “I just wanted to save some money on my energy bills.  This is a thorough approach that makes sure the job is done right,” says Moore, a retired Jacksonville school teacher.

A home performance team consists of a home energy auditor and contractors in various trades who are certified in energy efficiency.  Like a doctor, the energy auditor ‘diagnoses’ where the home is losing energy, and ‘prescribes’ corrective measures.  The auditor then works with the contractors to make sure the upgrades are completed in a way that maximizes energy efficiency, comfort and safety.

The philosophy behind home performance teams is the whole house approach.  “The whole house approach considers the home as a set of inter-related systems, where a change to one system may affect the others,” explains Wally Conway, owner of HomePro Inspections.

“For example,” Conway continues, “installing new windows may increase the humidity in your home, which can create condensation, deteriorate building materials, cause mold and affect indoor air quality.”

An ordinary window contractor will install the windows, collect his check and bid you farewell, with no knowledge or concern for the impact the new windows have on the rest of the house.

“That’s the value of working with a home performance team,” says Conway.  “The energy auditor knows which ‘side-effects’ to look out for, and how to prevent or correct them.  He also knows which order the work needs to be completed in to get the best results – and avoid problems.”  The contractors on the team are certified in energy efficiency, and they follow the recommended installation procedures and know how to prevent problems.

“I’d never thought of the house as connected parts,” says Moore, “but it makes a lot of sense.  Now that the work is done, I’m saving around twenty-five percent on my energy bills.  The air conditioner isn’t chugging along all day and night, and we’re much more comfortable.”

HomePro Inspections has been in business since 1994, conducting home inspections, energy audits, environmental inspections and commercial inspections in northeast Florida and southeast Georgia.  HomePro Inspections is an affiliate of Home Energy Team, a national network of home performance teams delivering a higher level of energy efficient solutions to homeowners.
